Frequently Asked Questions
Describe gitsell in 3 words
Gumroad for GitHub
How does it work?
Buyers get automatically added to your repo with view-only access, meaning they:
- cannot modify your repo
- can submit issues
- can submit PRs
- get continual updates automatically
Try the demo to see exactly how it works for free.
How much does gitsell take?
Just Stripe's standard fee + 2% for gitsell ≈ 5%.
Compare this to Gumroad's outrageous ~13% fee without any integration to GitHub, meaning repeated manual work by you to upload each new version, and you are no longer charged in your time on top of money.
Why do buyers need to log in?
Gitsell needs your email address so you can access your purchases forever. It also allows you to use other features like leaving reviews.
Does gitsell store my repo?
Gitsell never accesses the files in your repo other than the markdown file, if you specify one, keeping everything secure on GitHub. GitHub's permissions are not granular enough to just request access to that one file though. Email-only buyers can download a zip/tar archive of your repo, and this comes to the user directly via GitHub.
What if gitsell shuts down?
Gitsell will stay up for life—otherwise the source code will be published for free so it can continue on.
Where is your logo from?
It's a fork of the git logo by Jason Long.
